Physical Chemistry in Molecular Biology
Chemistry 156 is a one-semester course in physical chemistry which has
general chemistry, calculus-based general physics, and two semesters of
calculus as prerequisites. It deals with chemical thermodynamics and
chemical kinetics and emphasizes examples from the biological sciences. This course is designed for the following concentrations: Molecular Biology, Public Policy Analysis-Chemistry, Environmental Analysis-Chemistry track, Chemistry-Geochemistry track. The spring, 2006 version will satisfy the Chemistry requirement for Chemistry 158b.
Chemistry 156 will be taught for the last time in spring, 2006. Effective spring, 2007, it will then be merged with Chemistry 158b. The revised version of Chemistry 158b will have the following prerequisites: Chemistry 1a,b or 51; Physics 51a,b; Math 30, 31. Chemistry 158a and Math 32 will no longer be prerequisites for Chemistry 158b.
